Local Engagement

Our Local Engagement staff members work to improve local services by:

  • influencing and working in partnership with key decision makers
  • engaging with deaf children, young people and their families, and professionals when issues arise in their local area
  • providing families with opportunities to scrutinise the quality of services
  • sharing up-to-date information with families and professionals about local authority services, for example via our Deaf Education Map.

While we aim to work in partnership with local authorities and health services to influence policy and provision, we sometimes need to adopt a more direct approach. For example, when support for deaf children is threatened by spending reductions or change to provision is not in their best interests.
