New Salford Sentence Reading Test
The New Salford Sentence Reading Test is a measure of sentence reading to inform teaching and learning strategies. The sentences are carefully graded and cover different levels of difficulty. The test provides three parallel forms and gives standardised scores as well as reading ages. It also includes an optional new measure of reading comprehension, and extends the test 'ceiling' for less able readers to 13 . It was revamped two years ago to check comprehension age as well as reading age, and can also now be used for access arrangements. It is only available on paper.

How is it used?
Pupils are asked to read sentences out loud. Parallel forms and additional sentences are available for retesting, to avoid the practice effect. The test can be administered individually. individual administration. It takes at least four minutes.
What can it tell us?
The New Salford Sentence Reading Test provides reading ages for students up to 11 years 3 months and standardised scores for less able readers up to the age of 13 for reading accuracy, and up to the age of 14 for reading comprehension.
