Kenzie's a deaf awareness champion

Kenzie has been working hard to increase deaf awareness in our local community. He's been doing lots of things with his school, including daily British Sign Language (BSL) signing challenges and activity packs, and he has also delivered some sign language workshops in his school!

His school have always been really supportive and have even chosen BSL as their third language, so all the children are learning sign which is so lovely to see.

To celebrate Deaf Awareness Week this year, the children raised money to fund their new BSL cafe where they order their food using sign language. Kenzie and I got to open this cafe for the first time and take part in a sponsored signalong with the children. We raised £615, which is amazing!

Kenzie has also been doing some awareness with his Beavers group where he delivered a presentation on his deaf journey and his magic ears. Together, they are now all learning their Beavers promise in BSL. Kenzie has even been nominated for a special award with Beavers for all his hard work in increasing awareness in the community.

It always makes me so incredibly proud how sociable he is and how he's not afraid of anything. He is happy to stand up in front of a group of people, share his story and makes new friends everywhere we go.

He is helping so many families with newly diagnosed deaf children, sharing his journey and experiences along the way. The messages that we receive from parents saying how Kenzie is an inspiration and how watching him has helped them in their journey is incredible and so touching. It makes everything we're doing so worth it.
