Kenzie starts Beavers

If you have read some of our previous blogs, you will see that it's always a challenge to find activities and groups that Kenzie is able to take part in. There are lots of things that he's not able to do due to his cochlear implants, so finding something for him to be a part of is tough.

Last month, Kenzie joined our local Beaver Scout group, and he absolutely loves it. He has made a new group of friends and enjoys taking part in different activities each week. He's loving collecting his badges and watching them grow as he achieves more and more.

Last week, Kenzie even took part in his first ever sleepover! This was such an incredible achievement for Kenzie as sleeping is always an ongoing battle for us. Kenzie struggles to sleep in his own bed and often wakes up upset and in a panic if he's unable to feel that I'm there. Because of this, even though Kenzie is five years old, he still sleeps in my bed. So being able to last the whole night at a sleepover is amazing!

His Beavers group is really supportive of his needs. As a group, they are increasing their awareness and understanding of deafness and how they can support Kenzie. Kenzie has delivered a presentation on his journey so far and told them all about his magic ears and how they work. They're even learning their Beavers Scout Promise in British Sign Language (BSL) – how amazing is that!

I love watching Kenzie grow into the amazing, confident, bubbly and caring little boy that he is. He proves that having a disability doesn't need to be a barrier when it comes to achieving what you want to achieve.

I'm so proud of my gorgeous little boy.
