George meets his new baby sister
Published Date: 22 Aug 2024It’s been a little while since I’ve managed to write a blog – the reason for this is I’ve got my hands full with our beautiful baby girl, Sophia Joy, who was born in May. If life wasn’t hectic before, it certainly is now!
At the time of writing this, George is two years and four months old. Having not spent much time around other babies, I wasn’t sure how he was going to react to having a baby in the house.
The first time George met Sophia, he just stared at her. Which in my eyes, was a great reaction for George as he can sometimes be unsure of new things and gets upset. As time went on and naturally, Sophia cried… George was getting really upset at this. He really didn’t like the sound of her crying, being something he’s not experienced before, and a baby’s cry can be quite ear piercing.
We taught George that when the baby cries, we say “shh shh shh” and eventually, with lots of cuddles and reassurance, he stopped getting upset whenever she cried.
Now, every morning when he wakes up, he goes to her cot to check if she’s still here. If she's crying, he tries to put her dummy in her mouth or looks to me like, “she’s crying again Mam” with an eye roll.
Sophia has toys and teddies that play lullabies and white noise, which George has taken an interest in. Her Tommee Tippee Pip the Panda is a particular favourite of his as it plays the tune of 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star', which is George’s favourite song to be signed to him.
George has had to get used to other new noises around the house, such as the bottle prep machine and steriliser. The first time he heard it, he went searching to see where the noise was coming, but once he saw where the sound came from, it became second nature to him, and he doesn’t bat an eyelid at it anymore.
Over the last eight weeks since Sophia’s arrival, George has grown into a proper little boy, and I know he loves his baby sister in his own way! We can’t wait to watch them grow up together.
