National Deaf Children's Society welcomes first deaf gladiator

Published Date: 02 Feb 2024

Simon Want, Policy Analyst for the National Deaf Children’s Society, said:

“Jodie Ounsley’s appearances on TV’s Gladiators mean the world to deaf children and young people. Seeing positive deaf role models like Jodie, Rose on Strictly and Tasha on Bake-Off makes them feel less alone and isolated. It also inspires them to aim high and aspire to their dreams.

“We really hope that seeing Jodie on TV each week will make deaf children and young people feel more confident wearing their hearing technology, more able to talk about their deafness and believe they can have the career they want.

“Thanks to fantastic deaf role models like Jodie, we hope they’ll stand that little bit taller when they go back to school on Monday morning.”
